Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, with the Los Gatos Library as your starting point:
- Head east on Villa Ave, then turn left onto Jackson St and right onto Los Gatos Blvd. Turn left onto Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd, then get onto CA-17 heading northeast. Take exit 21 and turn left onto Lark Ave. Turn right onto Winchester Blvd, then left onto Knowles Dr. Turn right onto Dardanelli Ln, then turn left when you pass the hospital. We’re in the same building as the Community Medical Center, at 700 W Parr Ave Suite J.
- Alternatively, you could take Main St east away from the library, then head northeast on Los Gatos Blvd. Turn left onto Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd, then wait to turn right onto Quito Rd. Turn right again onto Pollard Rd, then left onto Parr Ave. Turn right after you pass the hospital, and we’re in the first building on the left.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Los Gatos has a fascinating history that dates back to the mid-1850s when James Alexander Forbes established Forbes Mill, a flour-milling operation along what was then called Jones’s Creek. The settlement that grew around the mill was eventually renamed Los Gatos, inspired by the Spanish land grant that preceded it. The historic two-story stone annex from the original mill still stands today as a reminder of the town’s early beginnings.
During the late 1800s, Los Gatos served as an important gateway to the Santa Cruz Mountains logging communities. The creation of the Los Gatos Turnpike positioned the town strategically between San Jose and Santa Cruz, spurring rapid growth. What began as a single adobe home in 1852 had transformed by 1868 into a bustling community complete with shops, a hotel, a post office, and various businesses.
By the early 20th century, Los Gatos had evolved into a thriving agricultural center known for growing apricots, grapes, and prunes. The 1920s brought a cultural renaissance as the area gained a reputation as an arts colony, attracting creative minds from various disciplines. Notable residents included violinist Yehudi Menuhin, actresses Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland, and writer John Steinbeck, who penned The Grapes of Wrath while living in the area. Beginning in the 1950s, Los Gatos transitioned into the charming suburban community it remains today.
